What are the system requirements to use AirMount for desktop?

AirMount for desktop requires a Mac running macOS 10.10+ (El Capitan, Sierra or Yosemite) or a Windows 10 device. We are working on making AirMount compatible with Android and other platforms. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook for the latest updates and thanks for your patience!

My Mac and iPhone cannot see or connect to each other.

First, make sure you are using the latest software updates for macOS and iOS. Are your devices able to discover each other using AirDrop? Please try the troubleshooting tips in the order below:

  1. Connect the Mac and iPhone to the same Wi-Fi network to see if that helps. If your Mac is pre-2012, this may be required, as it may not support AirDrop like technology between Mac and iPhone: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2015/06/23/how-to-mac-compatible-airdrop/
  2. Turn off both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your Mac and iPhone. Wait for at least 5 seconds, then turn both of them on.
  3. Restart both devices and try again.
  4. Force restart the iPhone by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo. For detailed steps, see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201559.
  5. If nothing works, you can try to reset iOS network settings via Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

How does AirMount for Mac and iOS work even without joining a Wi-Fi network?

If your Mac is mid-2012 or later (macOS El Capitan, Sierra or Yosemite): AirMount simply requires both devices have their Wi-Fi signals turned on and will connect regardless if the devices have joined an existing Wi-Fi network. This means you can use it anywhere! Bluetooth LE is not required but we recommend you also turn it on for a better user experience.

If your Mac is pre-2012 (macOS El Capitan, Sierra or Yosemite): Since your Mac does not support AirDrop technologies, AirMount requires the devices to join the same WiFi network. Lack of Bluetooth LE is not a problem!

What is the range for connecting devices using AirMount?

The range is typically the same as WiFi range, so about 30 meters (100 feet).

How do I connect AirMount over USB?

For higher performance, you can optionally connect the devices over USB. Make sure AirMount is running on the Mac/Windows and iOS device, then plug in the USB cable. That’s it!

If the devices are already connected when you plug in the USB cable, you can choose to switch to USB or keep the existing Wi-Fi connection. If the devices do not connect when you plug in the cable, just unplug and plug it in again.

To eject the device, simply unplug the USB cable when done.

How do I solve Bluetooth related issues on the Mac?

How is my data secure?

Your content is only shared locally with the devices you permit over local Wi-Fi and never sent to the cloud. You have complete control over the security and privacy of your data.

(iOS) What are whitelisted devices?

For your own and known devices, you can “always allow” them to connect without needing to approve the connection request each time. Those trusted devices can be managed here.

(iOS) Why do I require unlock to mount?

For your convenience, you may allow connecting even when your iPhone is locked. If you want more security, require unlocking prior to permitting a connection to your iPhone.

(iOS) Should I download iCloud photos?

If you are using “iCloud Photo Library” and would like to access those photos from your Mac, please turn on this option.
